Sustainability
Mental/Emotional health is essential to a wellness plan.  You and all of your relationships are valuable resources in creating a healthier planet.
Sustainability “is a key concept in ecopsychology, both in the sense of how we, as a species, can live sustainably on the earth, and how we as individuals, can create sustainable lives and relationships. Sustainability has a lot to do with dynamic balance, reciprocity, and interdependence.”

Interdependence
An interdependent ecological self involves a belief in the fundmental connectedness of human beings with the rest of the natural world.  This encompasses the idea that ones behavior is contingent on the wellbeing of others (plants, animals, humans, climate, and landscapes).
Ecotherapy in its own way addresses the "core delusion that underlies so many of our difficulties: the mistaken belief that we humans are somehow separate from the rest of nature. When we joyfully reconnect with nature and recognize in ourselves the natural beings that we are, true healing will follow."  - Linda Buzzell

Watching a sunset, planting flowers or food in your yard, picnicking at the park, or hiking with a loved one are all experiential circumstances in which you build relationship. Ecotherapy may assist you in developing an ecological self.   This in turn, may help restore your own invidual health and spirituality, and develop an awareness of your place within the web of life.

Connecting with and building a relationship with nature can be an important component in treating anxiety, drepression, and a variety of other emotional challenges during life transistions.

Taking Inventory
  • Do you have early memories of a postive experience in nature or a special place  in nature that you knew as a child or know now?
  • Can you think of a time when you found a sense of safety in nature or places or times when you felt completely relaxed outdoors?
  • Do you ever go camping, hiking, boating, or swimming?
  • Do you engage in any other outdoor sport?
